Horseshoe Bend Road
I was really hoping to get some good lightning/storm shots last night to the east, but nothing produced. For a moment around 8:30, there were some towers rising about 30 miles away, but as the sun set, they all just fizzled.
Today’s shot was so close to being a great opportunity. A little rain shower blossomed to the west and pretty much stayed stationary for a good hour. This allowed the sun to drop below the clouds and begin to illuminate from below. Unfortunately, there were quite a few Colorado showers and storms that quickly swallowed up the sun into an early sunset. This quickly extinguished any light that would ultimately provide a lot of color to the clouds. None the less, I enjoyed finding a new perspective on a road that I have driven many times. I have shot from/on this road probably 20 times in the past, never thinking to try and capture the large wide turn that it makes. For some reason tonight, it just clicked inside my head to give it a try. Will probably have to visit the area again when the foliage is greener.
